I had an amazing Mother's Day yesterday and I am so grateful for a fun day with the family. Matt made eggs and pancakes in the morning, then we picked up some sandwiches for a picnic at Madera Canyon. The drive was absolutely gorgeous and we took our time looking at all of the beautiful springtime plants, cactus, and a whole lot of cows, which Hayden thought were very cool. When we arrived, we found a quiet little private picnic spot and relaxed in the shade. It was a little warm, but not unbearable and the breeze made it very easy to tolerate the heat. Hayden found about 30 sticks he loved and gave Jane a lesson on moss, which we only discussed with him once, 3 weeks ago there and he remembered everything we had taught him.
After lunch, we hiked down to the stream and Hayden went straight into the freezing cold water up to his knees. Buster thought this looked like a lot of fun and jumped in after him. Buster didn't realize it was quite deep and he ended up going totally under the water before scrambling back to the side of the stream. It was actually quite funny but Buster didn't really seem to think so!
We spent the next couple of hours exploring, climbing and relaxing before we decided to take the "back way" home. We ended up on a very tame dirt road that took us 13 miles East, toward Sahuarita, where we re-connected with paved roads and drove home. The whole 13 mile drive, we never saw another car, so it was like our own private drive. Hayden was totally wiped out from all of the fun and slept the entire way home.
For dinner, I was spoiled with Chinese food and I even got 1 1/2 hours alone to watch a movie on Netflix, which I NEVER do!
It was an all around amazing day and I am so appreciative of Matt and Hayden for giving me such a fun day. Here's some pics of the day!
