Hayden is now exactly 3 years and 4 months old and I can't believe how much he has changed. He's so unbelievably outgoing now and it just cracks me up. He finds random kids in the park to play with and asks them if they want to play a game, at school he has a whole group of kids he comes up with games for, and he loves to meet new people. He's getting so smart these days too (ok, he's always been smart but he's blowing me away with this). He can spell "Star" and "Duffin" and "Mom" and knows how to count to 20 in Spanish. He knows about 20 Spanish words on top of the numbers and also knows about 30 Sign Language words. Hayden is the "Manner Police" now as well. If one of us doesn't say please or thank you, he reminds us that we forgot. It's so funny.
I was going over a "Kindergarten Readiness" checklist the other day and I had to laugh because Hayden can already do every single thing on the list...They really don't expect anything from 5 year-olds in this state. If people would spend time playing with their kids in a way that wasn't "you watch tv and I'll sit in the room so it's playtime", maybe kids would be able to achieve more out of their early childhood and kinder wouldn't have to be spent learning how to follow directions or interact socially! Every single thing Hayden has learned has all been in a really fun way and it hasn't even been "work" for him. I'm not saying people who don't teach there kids things are bad parents, I just have a kid who wants to learn and I am following his lead on that. I want to feed his mind with as much as he wants to take in. In fact, he's currently sitting with Matt counting parts of a Transformer and matching it to his others to find which ones are the same and different. Learning while playing is awesome!
We have been super busy with lots of play dates after school and swimming, swimming, swimming. We have been to the pool about 8 times in the past 2 weeks and Hayden is loving it. When he starts swim class (which is July, not June), he is going to be very ready to try some new stuff.
This weekend is a full-swing weekend for us. Today we have a T-Ball game, Lego shopping (Matt and Hayden want to build a huge Star Wars ship), birthday shopping for our friend's party tomorrow, Mommy gets to go get a pedicure and have lunch with girlfriends, and grocery shopping. Tomorrow we are going to a party for Hayden's buddy Alex in the morning, then we are bringing dinner to friends with a newborn in the afternoon. I like the busyness but it will be nice to have the summer off to relax during the days with Hayden and hang out with friends.
I will post some pictures tonight or tomorrow of our craziness. Lots of love to everyone :)
