Our whole side of town is getting H1N1. Both Cienega and Empire high schools down the street from here are terribly infected with the virus right now and now children are showing up at the middle and elementary schools with the virus as well. I have been debating for at least 2 months now what we would do when these shots became available and what the possible side effects would be for a little guy like Hayden. I read article upon article about all of the pros and cons and decided it is only a matter of time before this virus spreads to the local grocery stores, Purple Heart Park, etc. and I really don't want to look back in another month and think, "Why the hell did we not get him vaccinated?" Matt was strongly for the vaccination since I work with children, Matt touches mail and packages all day and Hayden goes to school. It took a little convincing for me but we decided to just go for it.
Last Monday, Matt called our pediatrician's office and was told they had some H1N1 vaccines available but most likely would be out of them in the next 2 hours. He immediately called me at work and I went straight there after picking Hayden up an hour later. I was SO nervous that he would end up having some awful reaction or some terrible side effect, but he never even got a fever. He has gotten fevers from every single vaccine he has ever gotten, except this one. I am absolutely 100% for this vaccine and I hope we will be able to get one soon too. I'm also really hoping the virus doesn't totally take over this side of town...A couple of out of town relatives have had it and it does not sound like a good time!
