The Why Game

Hayden has a fun new hobby the past few days. He wants to know why everything is the way it is. Just in the past 24 hours, we have all had in depth conversations with him about everything from "Why do pumpkins grow in the ground?" to "Why doesn't Buster have hands like we do?" I think it's awesome that he is inquisitive and wants to know everything about the world. Here's a conversation from this morning,

"Mommy, can I bring the scarecrow to sit with me at breakfast?"

"Sure."

I put the scarecrow in the little chair and put a piece of Hayden's waffle in front of it so we could pretend to eat with him. Hayden takes a few bites and then stops, puts down his fork and asks,

"Why doesn't my scarecrow have hands?"

I explained that the scarecrow was full of paper and didn't need hands, etc.

Hayden says, "Don't worry, I have 2 good hands so I'll let him borrow mine until Halloween!"

He's always making sure other creatures are treated fairly, stuffed with paper or not. I expect the why game to continue for quite some time so I'm sure our explanations will have to be pretty damn good. I always hear, "wow, he's so smart and kind" from friends, family and total strangers and I agree...He's a little smart pants!
