Hayden is in a "Cape Wearing" phase the past two days and it is mighty cute. He has been wearing his Superman cape around the house and today he wanted to wear it while we rode our bikes. He wants me to put a big "H" on it so it will be a "Superhero Hayden Cape". I need to find an iron-on letter at Michael's so it will stay on. The local old ladies that we usually see on bike rides in the afternoon were cracking up at his cape flapping in the wind and I was too. By the way, when I say Our bikes, that includes me! Our friend Scott just recently got a new mountain bike and he gave me his so I can ride with Matt now that he has the new one from TriSports. We are planning to go ride at Fantasy Island in the next few days so I'll post some pictures when we go.
Hayden has nearly outgrown his 10" bike and will be ready for a bigger one by summer, I'm sure. He also wants brakes because he knows how to use them already and he says "I need brakes because I'm big and big kids have brakes on their bikes." Yes, we are definitely also in a "I'm super short but need to prove I'm taller than everyone" phase. Every day he tells the other kids at school (who are much taller than he is) that he grew last night and he's getting taller every day. He stands on his tiptoes and holds his hands up to show that he did get taller. The other 3 year olds show him that they are tall too and the older 4 and 5 year-olds always oblige the little ones by saying "oh wow, you guys did get taller!" One of the 5 year-olds has started calling Hayden his little brother because he always helps him reach things and he showed him around the first couple of weeks. They are also bathroom buddies on the big playground and I think it's good for Hayden to see that bigger kids are very helpful and it's also good for his friend to spend time helping a younger child. If only all 5 year-olds would be that sweet! And, to Hayden's credit, he grew 1/4 an inch since January so he did, in fact get taller! I love these little phases Hayden goes through. He really has his very own distinct personality and has an amazing spirit about him...all 35 AND 1/4 inches of him!
Yes, Matt and Hayden somehow managed to be dressed the same today and we didn't realize it until this afternoon...They are a handsome pair!
